A Poem for St Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day

So today marks the day of Saint Pat
when some English put on a green hat
– but Patty’s short for Patricia
so an Irishman’s bicker
calls for Paddy in short (Padraig, that)…

If I’d taken a trip into town
I’d see the engishfolk fooling around
while dressed up in green,
a parade to be seen,
while folk music plays in the background.

So I’m celebrating this day on my own
in the tradition of staying at home
– though it’s nothing unusual,
I’ll round off my perusal
of cultural myth with this poem.
